Warland Residence
The client, a young family of four, wanted a combined kitchen /dining area with seating for large gatherings. The clients also had a wish list of appliances that included Subzero fridge, Wolf gas range, Wolf micro drawer, a full height Subzero wine fridge and a dedicated space for their Nespresso coffee machine.
There were a few challenges that needed to be addressed. The existing U-shaped kitchen was crowded and made food preparation difficult for more than one person.. A partition separating the space made the space feel compact compared to the rest of the house. In addition to the layout, existing elements like radiators had to remain.
The solution was to remove the partition wall between the kitchen and dining room. This allowed us to reconfigure the layout to include an island. We clad the Subzero fridges and dishwasher so that the focal point became the beautiful wolf range. The soft grey shaker cabinets paired with brass handles provided an elegant style to compliment the luxury appliances. An open shelf was incorporated at the back of the island to give visual interest and allowed for the clients’ cookbook collection to be displayed. Waterfall countertop detail was incorporated on the ends of the island for both durability purposes and visual impact.
built-in banquette was designed along the south wall to allow for a dining table to be tucked away. This allowed sufficient clearance for patio doors while it also providing additional storage for seasonal items. A radiator cover was incorporated into the banquette millwork to hide the existing radiator and a second radiator was replaced with a kickspace heater. An existing closet in the hallway was made smaller to allow for a custom coffee station and wine glass cabinet with bottle storage below. The existing kitchen window was moved and enlarged to allow for more natural light.
